HomeAgain® Microchip Identification System

Part of a Program of Responsible Pet Care: Spay/Neuter, Vaccinate, Microchip.
Your pet is an important member of the family and unfortunately thousands of pets are lost or stolen each year.

To help prevent pet loss, consider microchipping with HomeAgain®, an advanced pet identification system that reunites pets with their owners.

Why Have your Pet Microchipped with HomeAgain®
  • Only about 14% of dogs taken to animal shelters are returned to their owners.
  • 30–60% of lost pets that end up in shelters are euthanized, since they cannot be identified and reunited with their owners.
  • Fewer than 25% of animals in shelters are adopted.
  • Collar ID tags are easily lost and can be removed.
  • Identification tattoos are difficult to remove, but may be altered, blurred or troublesome to decipher. Duplication of ID numbers is also possible.
  • Microchipping is a permanent, entirely unalterable form of pet identification.
  • Shelters, humane societies and veterinarians are using microchip scanners in ever-increasing numbers.
  • Microchipping is inexpensive, safe, fast and virtually painless for a pet.

How HomeAgain® Works
The HomeAgain® microchip is a tiny device, the size of a grain of rice encoded with a unique, permanent identification number. The device itself is implanted by a veterinarian just under the skin between the shoulders. Insertion is quick and virtually painless with no anesthetic or further treatment required. If your pet is lost, the microchip can be detected and the identification code read by a scanner used by veterinarians, animal shelters and other pet-related agencies.
The identification code, registered with the Companion Animal Recovery (CAR), is matched to the owner or the designated contact to initiate the recovery process.

From Enrollment to Recovery: How the HomeAgain® System Works

Enrollment
Once the HomeAgain® microchip has been implanted in your pet, your veterinarian will provide you with an American Kennel Club-Companion Animal Recovery (AKC-CAR) program enrollment form.
In order to enroll your pet in the database, immediately send this form, using the pre-paid envelope supplied, to the AKC-CAR program. The one-time payment provides lifetime enrollment for your pet.

Tagging
Your veterinarian will also provide you with a special yellow tag to attach to your pet's collar. This promptly alerts any animal shelter or veterinarian that your pet has a microchip and is enrolled in the AKC-CAR database.

Stay in Touch
Always make sure that your contact information is current.
Notify AKC-CAR immediately at 1-800-252-7894 in the event you move, obtain a new telephone number or change veterinarians. Also contact them if you travel frequently, since they can register temporary contact information. Keeping the AKC-CAR program updated as to your whereabouts is absolutely essential in the event your pet becomes lost.

For Life
You’ve made a lifetime commitment to your pet, and HomeAgain® makes the same to you. With no batteries or energy source, the microchip is activated only when a scanner reads it. The scanner provides the microchip with the power necessary to transmit the unique code that identifies your pet. Since the chip needs no power itself, it will transmit the unique ID code for the life of your pet.

Recovery Services
The AKC-CAR program’s database contains information on more than 1.6 million pets, with thousands of new enrollments each year.
The program is dedicated to reuniting pets with their owners—24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Thanks to the HomeAgain® Microchip Identification System and AKC-CAR, more than 185,000 lost pets have been reunited with their owners. On average, a lost pet microchipped with HomeAgain® is reunited with his or her family every 11 minutes!
